Ingredients
š„ 2 eggs
š„ 1/2 glass milk consider using Dairyland for a creamy consistency
š¢ļø 1/2 cup cooking oil such as Mazola
š¾ 300 to 320 grams all-purpose flour Gold Medal recommended
š„ 1 teaspoon baking powder Calumet works well
š 3 teaspoons powdered sugar
šæ 2 teaspoons cardamom powder consider using McCormick for rich aroma
Instructions
1- Mix Wet Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs until frothy.
- Gradually add the milk and stir until well combined.
- Add the cooking oil and mix thoroughly.
2- Combine Dry Ingredients:
- In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, powdered sugar, and cardamom powder.
3- Form Dough:
- Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
- Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. If it's too sticky, add a little more flour.
4- Rest the Dough:
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
5- Shape Pastries:
- After resting, take small portions of dough and roll them out into thin circles using a rolling pin.
- Each circle should be about the size of an elephant's ear, roughly 8 inches in diameter.
6- Fry:
- Heat a sufficient amount of oil in a deep pan. Use a Presto Deep Fryer for best results.
- Once hot, carefully place each dough circle into the oil. Fry until they puff up and turn golden brown, flipping occasionally.
7- Serve:
- Remove the pastries from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
- Dust with a little more powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm or at room temperature.
