Hello friends! Today, I'm delighted to share with you a traditional casserole recipe from the Korçë region known as Tavë me Fasule Pllaqi. If you've visited Korçë, you probably remember the distinct taste of this special dish. This recipe is simple to recreate, allowing you to enjoy the authentic flavors of Albania right at your table.
Ingredients
🫘 500g large beans, Goya large white beans
🥕 3 carrots
🧅 1 onion
🫒 Olive oil, Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil
🌿 Oregano, McCormick Oregano Leaves
🧄 3 cloves of garlic
🌶️ Red pepper, Simply Organic Ground Red Pepper
⚫ Black pepper, McCormick Black Pepper
Instructions
1- Prep the Ingredients:
- Soak the large beans overnight in a bowl of water. Drain them the next day.
- Peel and dice the carrots into small rounds.
- Dice the onion finely.
- Mince the garlic cloves.
2- Cook the Beans:
- In a large pot, boil the soaked beans in water on high heat until they are tender, approximately 45-60 minutes. Stir occasionally. Drain and set aside.
3- Prepare the Casserole:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F).
- In a medium skillet, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat (using a skillet like the T-fal Nonstick Fry Pan).
- Add the diced onions and sauté until they become translucent.
- Incorporate the carrots, minced garlic, a teaspoon of oregano, red pepper, and a pinch of black pepper. Sauté for another 5 minutes until the carrots are tender.
4- Assemble and Bake:
- Transfer the cooked beans to a casserole dish (Le Creuset Stoneware Oval Casserole is a great choice).
- Add the sautéed vegetables and spices mixture. Drizzle with a bit more olive oil and stir to combine.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes to allow the top layer to become golden and flavorful.
