Antiguan-Style Mashed Green Papaya

Ingredients
🍈 1 Unripe Papaya, green
🥑 1 tablespoon Avocado oil, 365 Everyday Value, 100% Pure Avocado Oil
🧄 ~4-5 Cloves of Garlic
🧅 1 Large Onion
🧂 1/2 Tablespoon Salt, generic shaker
🌿 1 Tablespoon Turmeric, generic shaker
🌶️ 1 Tablespoon Black Pepper, generic grinder/shaker
💧 Water, for boiling papaya
Instructions
1- Prepare the Papaya:
- Using a large kitchen knife, chop off both the head and bottom ends of the green papaya.
- Peel the skin with a vegetable peeler.
- Halve the papaya lengthwise and scoop out the seeds and inner membrane.
- Dice the papaya into 1-inch cubes. Rinse under cold running water in a metal colander.
2- Cook the Papaya:
- Boil water in a large pot on the stove. Add 1/2 tablespoon of salt.
- Add the diced papaya cubes to the boiling water. Cook until tender.
- Drain the papaya and mash it in the pot until smooth.
3- Prepare the Aromatics:
- Dice the onion finely, peel and mince the garlic.
4- Sauté and Combine:
- Heat avocado oil in a small frying pan over medium heat.
- Sauté onions and garlic until the onions are translucent.
- Stir in turmeric and black pepper, mixing well.
- Combine the mashed papaya with the sautéed mixture and stir thoroughly.
- Cover and let simmer for a few minutes to allow flavors to meld.
5- Serve:
- Serve hot on a white rectangular plate for a delightful culinary presentation.
