Here's how to make this sweet and simple dish using just three ingredients.
Ingredients
🍈 1.5 kg ripe red guavas
🍚 1.5 kg sugar
💧 Enough water to aid blending
Instructions
1- Prepare the Guavas:
- Wash and dry 1.5 kg of ripe red guavas.
- Cut each guava in half and use a knife and spoon to scoop out all the inner pulp and seeds, setting aside the rinds in one bowl and the pulp with seeds in another.
2- Blend the Pulp:
- Place the reserved guava pulp and seeds into a Britânia blender.
- Add a small amount of water to assist blending. Blend lightly to separate seeds from the pulp without liquefying completely.
3- Strain the Pulp:
- Pour the blended mixture through a large colander to remove most seeds.
- Pass through a fine sieve for a smooth consistency.
- Collect the strained, seedless guava cream in a large pot.
4- Combine and Cook:
- Add 1.5 kg of sugar to the pot with the guava cream.
- Include the guava rinds, placing the assembly on a Consul stovetop. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously for around 15 minutes until the guavas soften and the mixture splatters less.
5- Simmer Until Thicken:
- Lower the heat to a simmer, stirring occasionally for another 25–35 minutes. The mixture should become thicker and take on a darker red hue.
6- Check for Doneness:
- When the goiabada pulls away from the pot's bottom and drips thickly off a spoon, it's done. Remove from heat immediately.
7- Prepare the Mold:
- Line an aluminum baking pan with plastic wrap for easy removal.
8- Mold and Cool:
- Pour the hot goiabada into the prepared pan, ensuring it spreads evenly. Let it cool at room temperature until firm.
9- Serve:
- Once cooled and set, invert the goiabada onto a serving plate and slice into desirable portions. It pairs beautifully with Minas cheese or cream cheese for serving.
