Ingredients
🌾 400 grams flour
🧈 50 grams lard or butter
🍬 50 grams sugar

💧 150 ml hot water or milk
🛢️ 500 ml oil for deep frying
Instructions
1- Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
- Sift 400 grams of flour into a large mixing bowl to ensure there are no lumps.
2- Incorporate Fat:
- Add 50 grams of lard or butter to the flour.
- Work the mixture with your fingers until it resembles coarse sand.
3- Add Sugar and Salt:
- Mix in 50 grams of sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt using a wooden spoon, ensuring even distribution.
4- Baking Powder Integration:
- Add 2 teaspoons of baking powder and mix well.
5- Create the Dough:
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture.
- Crack 1 egg into the well.
- Gradually add 150 ml of hot water or milk, stirring with a wooden spoon to incorporate the dry ingredients.
6- Knead the Dough:
- Once the dough begins to come together, transfer it to a clean surface and knead it until smooth and well combined.
7- Rest the Dough:
- Form the dough into a ball and allow it to rest in the mixing bowl for 10 minutes.
8- Roll Out the Dough:
- Divide the dough if necessary for space.
- Roll it out thinly with a rolling pin until it's a large rectangle.
9- Cut the Dough:
- Use a pizza cutter to trim the dough into neat strips about 2 cm wide, and then cut these strips into smaller rectangles.
10- Fry the Pastries:
- Heat oil in a deep pot.
- Carefully fry the dough pieces in the hot oil until golden brown on both sides.
11- Drain and Serve:
- Place the fried Tawa Tawas on a tray lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve warm with a drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of powdered sugar, if desired.
