Ingredients
🌾 2 cups wheat flour
🐟 1 can tuna, brand not specified, blue and yellow label
💧 Approximately 1/2 cup water
🧂 A pinch of Stonemill Table Salt
🫒 Generous quantity of Olé frying oil
🧅 Optional: 1/4 cup chopped onion
Instructions
1- Prepare the Batter:
- Place 2 cups of wheat flour into a clear glass mixing bowl.
- Add a small pinch of Stonemill Table Salt to the flour.
- Pour approximately 1/2 cup of water into the flour mixture.
- Mix thoroughly with a fork until a smooth batter forms. Adjust with more flour if necessary to achieve a consistency that's neither too thick nor too runny.
- Drain the oil from the can of tuna and add the tuna to the batter. Mix until well incorporated. If desired, add chopped onion at this stage.
2- Fry the Pastels:
- Heat Olé frying oil in a Tefal non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat.
- When the oil is hot, use a ladle to scoop portions of the tuna batter and carefully spread them into the pan, shaping them into circles.
- Fry until golden brown on one side, then flip using a slotted spatula.
- Once both sides are golden, remove pastels from the oil and place them on a white ceramic plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Repeat with the remaining batter.
