Ingredients
🌾 3 cups all-purpose flour (King Arthur)
🥄 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (McCormick)
🥄 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg (McCormick)
🧂 1/2 teaspoon salt (Morton)
🥛 1 cup whole milk (Organic Valley)
🍚 1/2 cup sugar (Domino)
🍞 1 packet dry active yeast (Fleischmann’s)
🥥 1/4 cup Creole Coconut Spiced Buns Mix (Nikki's Cuisine)
🥚 2 large eggs (Eggland’s Best)
🍶 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (Land O'Lakes)
🍊 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
🌰 1/2 cup raisins
🥒 For the cross: 1/4 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup water
Instructions
1- Prepare the Dough:
- In a small saucepan, gently warm the whole milk until lukewarm. Combine with sugar and yeast, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the Creole Coconut Spiced Buns Mix, eggs, melted butter, and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix well using a wooden spoon or KitchenAid mixer until a dough forms.
2- Knead the Dough:
- Flour a clean surface and knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Gradually add in the grated orange zest and raisins as you knead. Ensure they are evenly distributed.
3- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
4- Shape the Buns:
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
5- Add the Cross:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Mix 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour with 1/4 cup of water to form a thick paste. Transfer the paste into a piping bag and pipe crosses on top of each bun.
6- Bake:
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack.
