Traditional Brazilian Quentão de Cachaça
Quentão is a traditional Brazilian beverage commonly prepared during Festa Junina, a festive winter celebration in Brazil. This delightful mulled drink features the unique warmth of cachaça combined with aromatic spices and citrus, offering a harmonious blend of flavors that will transport you to a vibrant Brazilian street festival.
Ingredients
🍬 1 cup 200g sugar
💧 300ml water
🍹 300ml cachaça Velho Barreiro
🍋 1 Tahiti lime, sliced
🍊 1 Pera orange, sliced
🌿 2 cinnamon sticks
🌿 10 cloves
🌿 1 star anise
🌿 6 slices ginger
Instructions
1- Prepare the Caramel Base:
- In a cooking pot (patterned, non-stick, red exterior), add the sugar with the stove turned off.
- This ensures even distribution before heating.
2- Caramelize the Sugar:
- Turn on the stovetop to high heat.
- Start caramelizing the sugar. Stir with a wooden spoon to prevent uneven heating.
3- Integrate the Spices:
- Once the sugar forms a light caramel, add the ginger slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise.
- Stir continuously to release their aromas.
4- Dissolve the Caramel:
- When the caramel reaches a light amber color, carefully pour in 300ml of water.
- Continue stirring until the caramel dissolves thoroughly.
5- Add Citrus:
- Add the sliced Tahiti lime and Pera orange.
- Mix well.
6- Simmer the Mixture:
- Bring the mixture to a boil, cover the pot.
- Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
7- Introduce the Cachaça:
- After simmering, add 300ml of Velho Barreiro cachaça to the pot.
- Stir, bring it back to a boil, cover again, and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
8- Finalize and Serve:
- Turn off the heat.
- Your Quentão is now ready to serve hot.
